Colegiata

Crowning the village, the Castle is found and the Colegiata of Holy Mª the biggest, precinct fortified where the oldest constructions are found conserved.  Their inexpugnabilidad was guaranteed by their situation, in a rocky crest with an only access walled, given that the remaining sides presented the natural protection of the cliff opened by the river Vero.

In 1099, the king aragonés Sancho Ramírez endowed to Alquézar of a community of canónigos agustinos and with this motive a church was built colegiata románica of the one that only has arrived us the atrium, decorated with capiteles historiados.  Románico in origin, and at present Gothic is the cloister, whose walls were decorated with a cycle of mural paintings that relate scenes of the infancy of Jesus and that they were being repainted to the century XVIII.

Al cloister they were opened in the centuries XVI and XVII several chapels, of the ones that deserves to be emphasized the one that gives access al bell tower.

In the first half of the century XVI the present one was built Colegiata of Holy María, work of Juan of Sure, author also of the Seo of Barbastro.

In the century XVII the interior would be enriched with a beautiful altarpiece of next, polychrome and golden wood to the esthetics of the baroque one, and with new chapels as that of Lecina.  To the chapel was incorporated a Christ carved in wood, popularly known as the Christ of Lecina, splendid size carried out in the century XII advanced, that responds tipológicamente al model románico of Christ crucified.
